David Johnson has had several careers . That of an optician , a merchant seaman, a dredge operator . But, his most enduring incarnation is that of an artist . He signs his work Wolff, a family name, which symbolizes action without fear or regret .
Wolff's style of art is sometimes funky and refreshing, other times somber and haunting, but always colorful, with a wry sense of humor . His use of texture and colors are inviting and unexpected . Though the subject matter is constantly changing and evolving. He remains a minimalist, focusing primarily on simple lines in the relationship of color .
For many years Wolff made his living applying faux finishes and decorative plasters in homes and businesses throughout the Southeast, mastering ancient techniques and materials . His artwork is an incorporation of traditional application's and modern materials, creating a unique and exciting style .
Wolff currently resides in North Florida, where he paints full-time . He gives several workshops a year in painting and the application of texture .
